NYC... Trading $200 Bank Cards for Your 'Working' Handguns

New York City will hold a gun buyback on Saturday, October 22nd, offering a $200 bank card in exchange for a working handgun.

"There are just too many guns on the streets and getting them off the streets is not a solution totally, but it helps," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Thursday.

The exchanges can be made at three locations in Harlem.

Bloomberg News reports this is just the latest buyback in a program that started in 2008. Since then some 7,000 guns have been turned in.

While that number is just a small dent in the number of guns out there, State Senator Bill Perkins said buyback plans are among the most cost-effective government programs because they also reduce hospital costs, missed days of work and insurance payouts.
