The Allegheny County Health Department and County Immunization Coalition are teaming up with the Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide free flu shots outside PNC Park, on Federal Street, on Tuesday, September 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., before the Pirates game against the Chicago Cubs.

Clinic to Offer 1,000 Doses of Vaccine for Seasonal Influenza

The vaccine protects against seasonal influenza that occurs every fall and winter and is not for the new H1N1 influenza sometimes referred to as swine flu.

One thousand doses of the seasonal vaccine will be offered at the PNC Park clinic along with information about the future availability of H1N1 vaccine, which is not expected to become available until late October.

Public service messages will be shown during the game on the ballpark's video board promoting vaccinations for children and adults alike against influenza and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

In addition, County Health Director Dr. Bruce W. Dixon and Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Everette James will be interviewed about the importance and safety of flu shots and other vaccinations during the broadcast of the game.
