SouthWest publishing has had children's educational booksellers in our neighborhood for the last 7-8 years. They use foreign exchange students from all over Europe, etc (great Britain, Australia, etc).

The kid last night was from Bulgaria. They are legit. I have bought books from them before. They have catalogs and samples with them. They come on bicycles.

They target neighborhoods with kids and they have permits. NOT to be confused with Russian kidnappers. These kids are first and second year college students, they are trained in TN then sent out.

Don't invite them in, but don't freak out and call the cops either. ;-). They get paid for the number of people to whom they give their sales pitch. Just listen, be polite, say no thanks if not interested. Be vigilant, but be reasonable.
